On a partly sunny (more on this later) Saturday a group of T-Party members headed to Mendon, MA to visit Southwick ’s Zoo.
The zoo is a very interesting place with open air exhibits, shows and a ride that you can take to visit the wetland area and the animals that reside there. It is an easy walking place with lots of areas to stop and sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the animals. They are in the process of building several new habitats and it was interesting to see the wide variety of animals that they have.
They also have several shows that are of interest to a wide range of interests. Most of the group stopped and watched the elephant show and some took in the “small animal” show that showed the agility of many of the smaller animals.
Once we finished with the zoo we took a small drive over to a ‘50s drive-in complete with car-hop service. They had great food and we were treated to a special dessert of strawberry shortcake complements of Melody, the owner of the drive-in.

Enjoy the photos!
Oh, yes, the “partly sunny” lasted for the zoo visitors for our visit and lunch. We did hear that one member wasn ’t so lucky. About 15 miles from home they ran into a “micro-burst” and since there were no good places to pull off, they toughed it out getting soaked before they arrived home. Since this has happened to many of our members we prefer to think of it as a “rite of passage” for owning these cars!

Kathy Hadden didn’t have a top so the tarp came out just in case it rained while we were visiting the zoo.  (l)

Wrinkles the elephant performed some exciting tricks. She is 26 years old and still growing. (r)

Feeding the animals is prohibited... but not the members! (l) They position the snack stands at just the right places.

It was a lazy summer day for many of the animals. (r)

Not many zoos have 3 giraffes. The little one was adorable. (l)

There are also bird and reptile areas to visit. (r)
